One of the bigger surprises in spelunking is the encounter of Mother Nature's wonders. Here, a flowstone beautifully forms itself like a series of terraces. A flowstone is composed of sheetlike deposits of calcite formed where water flows down the walls or along the floors of a cave. It is typically found in limestone caves. However, a flowstone may form in any type of cave where water that seeps through has picked up dissolved minerals. This photo was taken inside a cave during our recent exploration in Talambato, a small village in Matanao Davao del Sur. Thanks to the B'laans from the area who played host to our visit and accompanied us during the exploration.
